Shaz Islam

Principal, Mercer Singapore​

Based in Singapore, Shaz provides investment advice to asset owners and organisations in Singapore for Mercer. He is Asia Insurance segment leader and has over 15 years of experience advising organizations on a diverse range of asset classes, including public equity, fixed income and private market. Shaz has assisted clients in developing a strategic asset allocation policy, an investment risk framework, a tactical asset allocation budget, and a commitment pacing program for private assets.

Shaz has worked with clients across a range of sectors. Clients include pension schemes, charities, insurance, family offices, and corporates throughout UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. He is recognised as a thought-leader in asset allocation, portfolio implementation and investment governance, having delivered presentations and workshops on each topic area.

Before moving to Singapore, Shaz was a Senior Advisor to leading organisations in the UK, providing investment advice and solutions.

In addition to his work at the firm, he is a committee member for the Financial and Fintech sector at the British Chambers of Commerce in Singapore.

Shaz holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with Economics. He is a CFA Charterholder and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA). He is currently pursuing the Islamic Finance Qualification (IFQ). He holds an Investment Management Certificate in the UK and was previously a registered CF 30 registered under FCA in the UK. He is currently a licensed Financial Advisory Representative (with Monetary Authority of Singapore).
